May 1, 2023

Every year, the Khyentse Foundation presents the KF Award for Excellence, which comes with a prize of US$1,500, to a student who has shown exceptional dedication and achievement in the field of Buddhist Studies, as chosen by the faculty of the Department of Religious Studies. We are delighted to nominate Andrew Nguy for this prestigious award. His MA thesis, “To Educate and Engage: Sermons and Hymns in Chinese Buddhist Liturgies,” is an outstanding exploration of later imperial Chinese Buddhist liturgy. Andrew skillfully draws on a wide range of textual and historical sources dating back to the 13th century and incorporates innovative analysis of live-streamed contemporary Chinese Buddhist rituals that took place during the pandemic. Through his research, Andrew has produced a remarkable piece of scholarship that is sure to contribute significantly to the field of Buddhist Studies. Congratulations
